Marion Technical College Radiography students recently nailed down a 3rd place finish in the 2009 Quiz Bowl Tournament.

The MTC Radiography Students recently attended the Ohio Society of Radiological Technologists (OSRT) Conference where they participated in the 2009 Quiz Bowl Tournament.

The Quiz Bowl is an annual, state-wide competition in which teams prepare for the Radiography Registry Exam by answering questions in a trivia format. The 2009 competition represented 15, two and four year, institutions throughout Ohio and one team from Connecticut.

Marion competed in six rounds of the competition. In the first round Marion beat Zane State 14 to 8. In the second round Marion beat Kent State Ashtabula Campus. Marion lost to Akron Children’s Hospital in the third round 12 to 14. Marion eliminated Zane State College 8 to 12 in the fourth round. In the fifth round, Marion beat the team from Cleveland Clinical in a tie breaker. Akron Children’s Hospital narrowly beat Marion in the sixth round. Sinclair Community College from Dayton won the event with the team from Akron Children’s Hospital taking second place.

Linda Rizzo, Clinical Coordinator and team advisor, was thrilled with the victory. “My students worked hard for this competition and did a great job. I’m proud of them,” Rizzo said of her class.

Marion is the only team in the history of the event to have won the championship five times.
