Galion Police turned a routine traffic stop into a major drug bust last week, and three people are in custody in the process.
The sequence of events started at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday when officer Dan Williams and Marc Rodriguez with the Galion Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Smith Street in Galion. Officers noticed an odor of marijuana emanating from the car, and a search was conducted yielding about a half-pound of marijuana.
After further investigation, a search warrant was issued and executed on a residence on South Riblet Street at 8:30PM. Galion Police, The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted in the search warrant.
That search yielded the seizure of 17 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of over 10-thousand dollars, and 780-dollars in currency.
43-year-old Robert Staats of Caledonia was arrested and is charged with Felony drug abuse. According to WBCO/WQEL, 25-year-old Joseph Osborne of Galion and 25-year-old Holly Duncan of Galion were also arrested and each charged with Trafficking in Marijuana.
